Discretion of LMC director; being used for educational purposes then no limit as long
as understand may have to share and not for personal use
2. Webinar—intellectual property for students and teachers
Discussion of concerns that some may be violating acceptable use; are we with some district plans/lack of license?; set up meeting with Dr. O’Shea; share powerpoint notes from webinar with all
3. SMART goal
Shared copy of one for MMS writing that ties in with I-SAIL; agreement that we should
create one for reading
4. Brainpop

5. Duplicate records

Agenda for Monday Collaboration
LMC Directors
November 15, 2010
Hall LMC
3:15-4:15

1. logins for library helpers/volunteers
a. We can create logins for those who volunteer in our libraries that prevent them from having access to parts of Destiny we do not wish them to access. I have created a login for my teacher volunteer.

2. adding patrons to Destiny
a. Vicki would prefer not to have the patron records updated after the initial update at the beginning of the year

3. LMC policy handbook—bring last year’s materials
a. Bette found the district materials from last year and shared them with everyone. We agreed that we need our own LMC policies, but no one has the time or energy to create them at this time. Would need to be board approved. >>

4. Flexible schedule/fixed (see 10 also)
a. Discussion of how it is working. Generally, going better. Especially, at Hall, so many students are pulled from class during the day, that it can be difficult for establishing a routine that fairly lets all children get to the LMC.

5. ILL (students/teachers)
a. Agreed at last meeting – ILLs are for teachers only, unless a teacher requests a book for a student.

6. Funding for author visit next year VB (Let GPLD know, may not have money)
a. GPLD is planning to have a meeting to discuss the author visit next year. We need to find out if there will be money in the budget so we can let GPLD know early enough. Vince was asking me.

7. Kate joining us
a. Decided that Kate can join us occasionally – about 3 times per year. We will send her the agenda. She can add items to the agenda. We need to be sure to stick to the agenda. When we meet in January, we will invite Kate.

8. Destiny – Reading Program Service – to add Lexiles to titles VB
a. Joan remembered Jerry saying “no” to this service because he doesn’t want a leveled library and he doesn’t want the focus to be lexiles. We all agreed that lexiles are just one tool and we don’t want our libraries to be “leveled.”

9. Adding lexile scores to patron records
a. Vicki has added the DRA scores and lexile scores to her patron record to help her in book selection for children. She used the User 5 field and did not indicate what the scores were, just put in a number. She uses it as a guide to assist children in finding “good fit” books.

10. 15 minute reading time/checkout with whole class VB
a. A possibility – whole classes can checkout part of the LMC to be used as reading time. A short book talk, 1 or 2 books, could be included. Students that need a new book could check out a book.

11. Adding icons to desktop VB
a. Vicki has icons for Destiny, Worldbook Online, Ebscohost databases, Tumblebooks, Starfall, and Math for Fun on the desktops of the POD computers. These are the only websites students can go to while they are in the LMC, especially at lunch and after school. If you would like to know how to do this, we need to set some time aside at a meeting. It is a little involved, but easy to do, once you know what to do.

Next Meeting: December 13 at MMS 7/8 building.
